Dr. Phillip Snider

CBN.comWHAT ARE BATH SALTS?
Bath Salts are a stimulant drug similar to methamphetamines. They are sold at "head shops" where other drug paraphernalia can be found. Gas stations, the Internet and convenience stores sell them as well. They are able to be purchased in these venues because of a simple label, "not for human consumption." That purposeful mislabeling has caused confusion for the FDA and getting them under the controlled/illegal substances. Although they may still be bought over-the-counter today, the FDA is in the process to put in place a temporary (year-long) ban on all products containing the active chemicals in Bath Salts.

DANGERS OF BATH SALTS
Being a stimulant drug they can be taken orally but it seems user preference is to inject or snort them which make them more dangerous. Some of the results of using this drug are becoming aggressive emotionally, their minds are unstable, and individuals become high strung. There have been emergency room reports of young men coming in who were out of their minds seeing things that weren't there, being physically aggressive with the hospital staff and one report said it took three "strong" men to hold down just one of them. The physical reactions to the drug are just as dangerous as the mental as it causes the heart to beat rapidly and erratically, the blood pressure has a extreme elevation, muscles are jerking and out of control, and sometimes there can be a "sudden death."
